Student Services

Our goal is to provide answers and resources to help make your experience at our schools a positive one. If you have any questions about the services your child receives, please give us a call. We are always happy to help you.

Counseling and Social-Emotional Learning

Our on-site counselors provide students with comprehensive counseling and guidance services to help them acquire lifelong learning and coping skills. Our proactive program also offers a variety of resources for parents as you guide your children through the early years of their educational journey.

We define coping skills as tools and techniques your child can use to handle difficult emotions, decrease stress, and establish or maintain a sense of internal order. Our schools use the Capturing Kids Hearts and Sanford Harmony programs to teach these skills. Please review the resources on this page for additional information.

English Language Learners

We use a structured English language immersion model, as approved by the state, to help our English learners acquire the language and social skills necessary for classroom success. This means all our subjects (except foreign language) are taught in English using techniques that make academic concepts understandable to all students.

Students in our program develop the ability to speak, read, and write in English as determined by the Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA). We group students with similar degrees of fluency together and offer up to four hours of targeted instruction each day. As student fluency increases, we move those students into a mainstream classroom taught by an SEI-trained, a bilingual education endorsed, or an ESL-endorsed teacher.

Identifying ELL Students
Within 30 days of beginning a new school year, or within two weeks of a student’s enrollment, students with a home language other than English (as identified by our Home Language Survey during registration) take the AZELLA. We will notify you of the results in 10 days. Students who do not score at or above the test publisher’s proficiency score are identified as English Language Learners (ELL) and placed in our program.

Health and Wellness

We desire to contribute to the general health and well-being of every student in our care, both mentally and physically. Thus, BCSD commits to promoting and protecting children’s health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting good hygiene, healthy eating, adequate physical activity, and drug-free behaviors. Learn more about our strategy for achieving this goal by reading our Wellness Policy.

Safe Schools
All students have the right to feel safe in their classrooms, and parents deserve the peace of mind knowing their children are protected at school. That’s why we’re proud to implement the Safe Schools program with the cooperation of our Bullhead City police. Our schools share uniformed resource officers who help with security and drug-free education.

School Safety

We are serious about school safety. Fox Creek JH has a full-time school resource officer and the other schools share a resource officer. These Bullhead City Police Department officers help prevent school bullying and improve general school safety and security. Our officers also talk to students about the risks of drugs and substance abuse.

Many of the resources we provide are available online for your perusal. If you have questions regarding the materials provided by our resource officers, please contact your school’s administrator.
